Yes, a change of colour and design helps – stops things getting boring or tired looking. I do it with my main blogger blog from time to time.
I believe that banners are a way to differentiate serious websites from commercial ones. Did you ever see a flickering banner on the blog of Dr. Steenbarger? The banner, of course, will not take me out of this forum, but I take it as an omen.
This banner looks a little obtrusively, but i like it. Well done.
